Marshall Bruce Mathers III (October 17, 1972, Saint Joseph, Missouri), 1 known by his stage name Eminem (Stylized to EMINƎM), is an MC, rapper, record producer and actor. It gained popularity in 1999 with his album, The Slim Shady LP, which won a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. His next album, The Marshall Mathers LP, became the second best-selling album in hip hop history behind only Life After Death by The Notorious BIG and the fastest in the United States.2 3 Eminem won greater popularity, highlighting his own record label, Shady Records, and brought his group D12 to mainstream recognition.

The Marshall Mathers LP and his third album, The Eminem Show, also won Grammy awards in 2001, and in 2003, won the Oscar for best original song for the single Lose Yourself from the film 8 Mile, in which he also starred role.
